Milkies, a McMinnville company launched by a mother/daughter registered nurse team, has ventured into the European market.
Renee Callanan and Helen Anderson launched the company, which produces lactation products, in 2007.
Recently, Milkies Milk-Saver was chosen by Central Medical Supplies Ltd. for distribution in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The relationship includes both large and small retailers.
"We are thrilled to offer the Milk-Saver to a new continent of breastfeeding mothers," Callanan said. "Obviously, mothers worldwide are clamoring for the Milk-Saver to help them stay dry and collect all that breast milk.
She said, "Philip Champ at CMS Ltd. was very eager to add the Milk-Saver to its line of lactation products. We did our due diligence on his company and liked what we learned. We decided to sign an exclusive distribution agreement with his company.
"He placed a large order, and retailers are buying. Everything is moving very quickly."
The Milkies Milk-Saver also has wholesale distribution channels in Canada and Singapore, Callanan said. Retailers in Australia are buying direct, she said, but the Australian distributor Nursing Angel plans to add the Milk-Saver to its line when orders can be filled directly from the factory in Taiwan, reducing shipping costs and lowering the retail price.
Callanan said the Milk-Saver currently is the least expensive device for collecting and storing breast milk. The worldwide economic situation makes this low-cost product attractive to breastfeeding moms everywhere, she said.
The Milk-Saver is simple to use.
Moms slip it into their bra on their non-nursing side before breastfeeding. When the milk ejection reflex occurs bilaterally, the Milk-Saver collects the ejected milk, helping moms stockpile many more ounces each day than they can by pumping alone.
Callanan and Anderson started the enterprise, aiming to be an environmentally conscious company.
The entrepeneurs said they strive to improve the lives of families at all income levels through education and innovative breastfeeding products.
