The Spruce Goose Photo Gallery
The HK-1's journey to Oregon, the
man behind Evergreen Aviation, and the restoration of the Spruce
Goose. |
 |
THE MOVE: In the winter of 1993, the Spruce Goose reached the
final leg of its 1,055-mile journey from Long Beach, Calif. to
McMinnville, Ore. It was floated through locks, barged down rivers
and under bridges, and hauled through fields. Whew! Take a look
at what it took to move the HK-1 the first time. |
 |
THE MAN: Who is Del Smith, anyway? In the fall of 1999, the
News-Register sent a photographer along with the Evergreen Aviation
founder on a typical day at work - a day that took them to Arizona
and back. |
 |
THE MUSEUM: As moving day approaches, workers are getting ready
on two fronts; construction crews are building the mammoth Captain
Michael King Smith Evergreen Aviation Educational Institute,
while volunteers restore the airplane. |
